About Lugansk

Lugansk is a large industrial city in Western Ukraine, by the border with Russia. It is located in a northeast part of the Donetsk area, at the merging of the rivers Lugan and Olhovka. Its close proximity to Russia means that Russian, rather than Ukrainian is the main language.

The city was born in 1795 and is the administrative, economic and cultural centre of the Lugansk area.

There is a modern airport in Lugansk which offers good service from the main airports at Kiev and Donetsk.

There are luxurious restaurants and cafe. Also there are a great number of places for entertainment, including a beautiful water park and ice skating rinks. There are also a great number of night-clubs and discos, theaters, movie theaters and bowling and billiard clubs.

The climate is moderately continental. Summer is hot with an average temperature in July from 21.8C to 23.1C. The winter is cold; the average temperature in January ranges from -6C to -8C.
